Quilters Dream Retreats
A QUILT RETREAT FOR QUILTERS OF ALL SKILL LEVELS
QD started in 1991
We were 2 sisters that couldn’t afford to go to a retreat so we started our own retreat. Here's how it went ----
- first 2 yrs in Warm Beach, WA – 2nd yr – not sure why anyone came back – The room was so small. We all had to stand up to go to the ladies room and all the ironing stations were outside.
- 52 ladies sewing in a room that was meant for a lecture.
- Moved to Camp Arnold - our 1st year at Camp Arnold – We had a Salmonella outbreak. this was a weird strain of salmonella. It was horrible - there was a write up in the Tacoma newspaper!!
- We are still here and loving it – we are sure they improve everything just for us!!
- Chef prepared food and it is GREAT!
- Great Sewing room the whole gymnasium!
- Great Staff - they really do a nice job of taking care of us!
- We’ve come along way baby!!
We now have 2 retreats -
Spring Retreat – We always have a theme for the Spring retreat – held in April – Usually mid-month. We average about 100 + attendees, and we offer classes with tools, books, or patterns for the classes offered at a discount price and always have free classes.
The Fall Retreat – a few less attendees – more laid back not quite as intense as the Spring retreat. – usually only 1 class – a Mystery class. We will be trying Quilt-A-Long classes in the future and we have a fun, quick game on Sat evening – a kind of gift exchange game – bring a $10 - $15 new gift, sewing or quilting related, for the game.
The retreat dates are set 1 year in advance – but we are at the mercy of the Salvation Army – A couple of times they have had to change the dates – but they try not to.
The upgraded “Guest” rooms are paid for in full one year in advance. These are almost always full and has a waiting list.
Payment for reservations for the lodges is $30 or any amount more than that to hold your place for the next year’s retreat. (April or October.)
For the retreats, Quilters Dream has vendors that come to provide services for our group.
*First and foremost is the quilt shop – this year we have Fabric Fix – Kris and John do a wonderful shop for us!
*We usually have Bob Beran with Northwest Sharpening.
*Massages always go over well with us quilters we have Mark for the massages.
*The Campground will have the Espresso Stand open in the mornings for us. All drinks are $3 and tickets are purchased through Quilter’s Dream. No Tips.
When you come to camp you will get your name badge, sign in, make sure we have all your registration info and payment.
Then you will stake out your sewing area.
The info on the web site has the check list of items you will probably want to bring. Names on your items would be strongly recommended.
Remember to bring tables, lights, extension cords and power strips, and your cords for your sewing machine. We have a lot but be prepared! <smile>
The sleeping facilities are Lodge/cabin with bunks, and you will need sleeping bags, pillows, towels, or Guest/upgraded facilities, you will have sheets and towels and are a little nicer facility and sharing the bathroom with fewer persons to share. The Guest/Upgrade facilities are always paid 1 year in advance to hold that accommodation for you.
Remember if you need anything while you are here, please ask. The quilters attending are very helpful and generous and are a great group of ladies.
We have the Flotsom & Jetsom table, these are items that you want to get rid of or items that you may want to browse through. We ask for donations, but we will not keep tabs on how much you donate or if you donate. But remember you must take all your stuff that is left when you leave! We don’t want to pack it up!!
The helpers we have helping you with packing things are here on the first and last day and tips are encouraged.
Quilters Dream over the years has accumulated lots of stuff and we have some of the things for sale this year and will try to continue this on an ongoing basis. These items will be discounted on the retail prices.
We have some first aid items, ear plugs, (snorers), tool kits, pens markers – all kinds of misc stuff – just ask.
Quilters Dream wants you to have a great time and come back again.
Remember – Quilters Dream is here for you. We try to put all we get for the retreat, back into the retreat. We do not run this as a business. It is “a retreat for quilters of all skill levels.”
Painters tape only on the walls.
Be polite. Be nice. Be considerate.
Don’t take down anyone’s quilt. Ask first.
Share.
You don’t want your memories to be sour ones, so keep your conversations positive, encouraging, and sincere.
Keep sarcasm to a minimum.
Profanity – keep it to a minimum. It doesn’t sound good on you!
Be flexible, this is supposed to be fun. If you are rigid in your reactions to situations, it will make you and everyone around you miserable.
You don’t want me to talk to you. <smiles>
