MYSTERY QUILT CLASS
RETREAT MYSTERY – 72” X 88” OR 56" X 64" - THURSDAY EVENING - $10 BARBARA KASPERSON – 253-226-6203 – BARBARAKASPERSON@YAHOO.COM Pre-class CUTTING AND SEWING instructions will be sent with class confirmation I’m excited to teach this year’s Mystery Quilt class. I think I’ve found a really cool pattern that will be loved and made again. I can see this pattern in many variations and can’t wait to see what you choose. This year’s Mystery Quilt class will finish at 72" x 88" OR 56" x 64" and has no borders. There are two main fabrics, an accent fabric and a background. The two main fabrics can be a light and dark variation of one color, two completely different colors, a print and a solid, one fabric only or totally scrappy. To use one fabric add the yardage and cut all pieces needed. To use scraps keep them similar in value, don’t mix very light with very dark. The accent fabric can be opposite in color to the main fabrics, similar in color to keep a monochromatic look, many different fabrics picking up colors in the main fabrics or scrappy. You could fussy cut designs for the 4 1/2” accent squares if you wish. Small print, tone on tone or fabrics that read solid from a distance will be the best choices for this pattern. Large prints, directionals, plaids or stripes are not ideal and should not be used.
Examples would be: red and blue main fabrics with yellow accents and white background. Red and green main fabrics with golden accents on ivory background. How about light and dark teal with white accents on grey background. All red main fabrics and accent on white background. Any variation of black, white and grey with multi colored accents. Totally scrappy main fabrics, accents and background. In the scrappy background variation I would keep the fabrics very calm or plain, not to busy. Please Note: The yardage is figured in fat quarters or quarter yards for all except the background. You can add to the number of fabrics, as I did, to get more variation. What is listed is the minimum to cut what is required. 2 Size options Yardage: For the 72" X 88" - Info originally given in 2020 Main fabric #1- 7 fat quarters or quarter yards or pieces to cut the required amount Main fabric #2- 7 fat quarters or quarter yards or pieces to cut the required amount Accent fabric- 6 fat quarters or quarter yards or pieces to cut the required amount Background fabric - 4 1/4 yards Binding fabric - 2/3 yard OR Yardage: For 56" X 64" Main Fabric #1 - 4 Fat Quarters or quarter yards or pieces to cut the required amount Main fabric #2 - 4 Fat Quarters or quarter yards or pieces to cut the required amount Accent Fabric - 4 Fat Quarters or quarter yards or pieces to cut the required amount Background - 2 1/2 yds Binding - 1/2 yd NOTE – QUEEN SIZE 88” X 112” Info available directly from Barbara Kasperson

MANX QUILTING – $10- PATTERN, TEMPLATE AND HAND SEWING NEEDLE- FRIDAY - 2 pm DEBRA BURGESS – 425-330-8253– SEW-N-SOW@SPRYNET.COM During the nineteenth century the Isle of Man was very isolated; located in the Irish Sea between Great Britain and Ireland. All goods came to or left the island by boat. So, every scrap of fabric was used until worn out. The ethnic people, called the Manx, developed a style of quilting unique to their ‘tribe’ and they called the pattern Roof Tiles. It is all hand-sewn, one block at a time, from half lights and half darker scraps. So, if you want to take on some slow sewing, Manx is for you! Convenient to collect supplies into a small basket or bin to take along or access while watching a movie. No sewing machine. All hand sewn!
